Biography
Michael Amquy is a Miami-based Native American artist. Born to a Lakota/Brazilian father and a Ukrainian mother, he has chosen to develop his creative activity in this city where he was born.
He currently attends Florida Career College and works as a freelance artist.
His creative activity began at a very young age with freestyle drawing. In 2018 he met the renowned artist Carolina Sardi, who allowed him to be a resident artist in her studio; It was there that he discovered his true passion for the plastic arts.
During 2021 and 2022 he was under the tutelage of the renowned Cuban artist Antuan Rodriguez receiving painting techniques in the artist's workshop.
In 2020 he took painting classes at the Oolite Art Center with Pablo Contrisciani and then continued to deepen his training by attending different workshops offered at highly recognized artistic institutions in the De La Cruz Collection in Miami such as: Zine Workshop with Dale Zine, Gimp Image with Jose Escape, CGI/Motion Graphics with Valy Echeverry, Mixtape as Medium with Chris Dougnac and Krystle Biggs and VR Camp with Roodolfo Peraza, Yuneikys Villalonga and Jommy Barbanust..
Michael Amquy is the carrier of a neurological condition, which has conditioned him to feel misunderstood and art became the vehicle to express his emotional ups and downs.
Michael grew up within the Lakota tribal tradition with his father and draws on his most ancient knowledge when he paints, which he uses to channel his inner world in the form of abstract paintings. The style and content of his work represents the emotions caused by his daily encounter with society and life itself. Nature is also a constant reference that allows you to bring out your creativity and inner strength.
